TPP IP Chapter gives big corporate media the right to take the person's original work and keep it as their own

The Electronic Frontier Foundation has pointed out a proposal in the TPP IP Chapter that would strip away the creator's termination rights, which means that it will grant the big corporate media the right to take a person's original creative work and keep it as their own.

Since 1978,  the recording industry sucessfully terminated the rights of every original artist.  Since just as it is back then,  it will be like the days when Walt Disney lost his first creation, Oswald the Lucky Rabbit,  to Universal

The proposal to the TPP IP chapter doesn't just limit to musicians, in fact if Japan signs TPP, Ken Akamatsu's Love Hina and Negima will be owned by the big corporate media.

Final Farewell from Anime News Nina Creator

Dear Readers,

When I first started "Anime News Nina," my original intentions were no deeper than "I want to make a fun web comic in-between my efforts to jump start a career." My brother suggested anime as a thematic starting point, and in the following six years, Nina has indeed seen me through jump-starting my career, moving cross-country, getting married, buying my first home, and finally, taking my own "Nerd Trip of Dreams" to Japan. Nina has essentially been a presence throughout my entire young adulthood. With that level of ubiquity in my life (coupled with my intense sentimentality), it hopefully isn't too embarrassing to admit that simply describing aloud the outline of the final comic gave me a sizable lump in my throat, and actually sending off the final finished strips to Zac led to some tears. Maybe a few of you feel the same way, but Nina and the gang feel like old friends at this point (even when I mildly resented them. "I can't hang out, I have to work on the comic," was a near-weekly catch phrase of mine).

But this is all a bit heavy for a goofy, squishy little comic about the media we all love. Thank you for reading, enjoying, and discussing Nina over the years. It was really fun to express all the things we love, hate, or find ludicrous about our favorite hobby and laugh at them. More thanks go to my brother, Justin, who fielded many flustered brainstorming phone calls and was always willing to help with Japanese language or industry knowledge. Thanks to Zac and Chris for allowing Nina to blossom in the first place, giving me creative freedom, and for dealing with my many hiatuses or other assorted hysteria. A special thanks to my husband who, in addition to helping draw the really cool "Redline" parody strip, was Nina's and my biggest supporter throughout all of this. Thanks to the fans out there in Russia, Hungary, the Czech Republic, and anywhere else I may have missed who translated Nina into other languages for more fans world-wide to enjoy. I can't say thank you enough to all of the readers again - I really couldn't have done this comic without you.
I hope some of you will support my upcoming efforts to publish a printed book collection of "Anime News Nina." Stay tuned to ANN or some of the sites listed below for further news on that. Thanks for your time- I hope you had fun.

Many years of good anime seasons and pooped candy your way,
-Robin Sevakis

A Trade Caucus of three corporate Reps, Japan sells its people out

A trade caucus, in favor for the corporations and against the people, are these traitors that the people voted:

Rep. David Reichhert (R-WA)

Rep. Charles Boustany (R-LA)

Rep. Ron Kind (D-WN)

Rep. Gregory Meeks (D-NY)

Senators Baucus and Hatch have called for a bipartisan renewal of the dreaded Fast Track Trade Promotion Authority that would take away the constitutional power of Congress to approve or reject trade agreements under the Commerce clause. Only to approve by an up-down vote and debate is only limited to 20 hours. However, any new version of the TPA could just do that and make secretive trade agreements (like ACTA) go into force without approval.

What's worse Japan has sold its people out:

Kyodo News reports that Japan calls for stronger (and even more extensive) intellectual property protection on anime series and anime characters. Ken Akamatsu in 2011 warned that the trade agreement would destroy doujinshi. Artist Kazuhiko Hachiya warned that cosplay would also fall under TPP. This would not only harm the manga and American comic industries, but also conventions. DeviantArt would have to remove the fan art category from their site and update copyright policy and Terms of Service.

TPP would create a dress police in Japan and America  A innocent child drawing Mickey Mouse or SpongeBob would put an entire family in prison under the trade agreement. Even the intellectual property chapter could include anti-circumvention DRM brain implants, an old April fools joke that may not be April fools anymore.

Let me say this again for those in Japan who learns fluent English need to translate:

Article 4.1 make web browsing a crime of copyright infringement if the language "authorize or" was struck out.

Japanese protesters warned that signing unto the TPP would allow Monsanto's Frankenfood into their country. Environmentalists would not be able to stop the Keystone XL pipeline and the EPA would have more trouble with foreign companies because of the investment clause. Credit unions would be shuttered

Malaysian lawmakers have warned that signing unto the TPP would block or restrict access to affordable medicine including generic medicines that treats HIV/AIDS and also it would allow tobacco companies to sue foreign governmenst under an appointed investment tribunal of 3 corporate judges.

Emi Nakada and Citron178 had launched a music video on Youtube calling everyone to Stop the TPP.

Please write to your Senator and Representative right now to stop the TPP and vote against Fast Track.

Happy Retirement, Miyazaki

Hayao Miyazaki, known director of Studio Ghibli films, Lupin III, Future Boy Conan, and Sherlock Hound announced that he will retire next week.

Right-wing school board bans Barefoot Gen

Right Wing Japan Liberal Democratic Party controlled school board has banned Barefoot Gen. Why? Because they refused to accept the defeat from the United States. We warned their grandfathers, they refused. We dropped the A-bomb on Hiroshima, but they wouldn't budge. We dropped the second A-bomb on Nagasaki, still they would not surrender. Then we fire-bombed their industrial factories until they surrendered. Plus they would not admit and apologize for the Nanking Massacre or the comfort women.

Prime Minister Abe wants to take Japan back to the Meiji Era. Any anime or manga that promotes pro-Western European themes are banned under the Child porn revision and Abe will be abusing the new revision to ban those kind of anime that are Pro-Western/European.

Miyazaki's new film is criticised by far-right wing groups as Anti-Japanese, and they call him a traitor.

Again, this is Pearl Harbor all over again.

Final Round of TPP negotiations is expected in August

The final round of TPP negotiations is expected in Brunei.

Trade Promotion Authority (Fast-Track) is expected to be taken up for a vote after the August congressional recess.

The TPA, if renewed, it will force Congress to approve TPP and TTIP. by a simple majority in both houses.

Don't forget ACTA, it's not dead. ACTA would also be approved if TPA is renewed.

You must urge Congress to vote NO on the TPA. We need to raise our voices.

Sign the petition on EFF and say NO to TPA.

AT&T's new Anti-piracy patent would be the end of the internet

According to TorrentFreak, AT&T has patented a new anti-piracy mechanism that targets unauthorized transfers or uploads of files to websites that are deemed copyright infringement even if the user does not file-share.

The new anti-piracy patent targets, including not limited to, movies, music, text, and images, that are uploaded to websites including Deviantart, Pixiv, Photobucket, etc. You upload a fan art and/or fan fiction, the file is identified and blocked and your account would be terminated and the infringing data is sent to your local law enforcements. The other option is tracking the infringer and taking actions after several offenses (AKA "Six Strikes")

As a matter of fact, this new anti-piracy patent will be abused and target anyone's computer even if they did not upload any infringing material. Uploading a family photo to Facebook would be blocked.

This doesn't just target those who are AT&T customers but ISPs here in America and around the world will get into AT&T's new patent.

It's the end of the internet once this patent comes into force.

AT&T had another patent that targets file-sharing users, which is the beginning. But I don't file-share.

This patent can also be used by law enforcements to go after those who download child pornography, and also be used by the Obama Government to go after people who visit patriot websites.

Rumors on a 2013 Sailor Moon Anime is probably false

It's really much late since I was busy on Facebook. But I like to congratulate on Mike Lazzo on his promotion to Vice President in Adult Swim's Game and Digital content Department.

I am proud of Lazzo and I wish him luck.

Now, I want to discuss on this rumor that been spreading around on the topic of Sailor Moon.

There had been rumors posted on Twitter, Anime News Network and Crunchyroll about an upcoming new Sailor Moon series which is absolutely a bunch of crap.

The two pictures on the Crunchyroll article is just an upcoming Sailor Moon musical. And the picture at the end is not the official artwork for the new Sailor Moon series. It just a fan art posted on Pixiv (Japanese version of DeviantArt).

Remember what happened when Production Reed (formally Ashi Productions) announced planned for an upcoming 30th anniversary Minky Momo, a musical, and a new Momo series, that plan was scrapped when scriptwriter Shudo (the guy who wrote for Pokemon and Nadesico) died from a hemorrhoid as a result of his excessive smoking. Those who do not know Minky Momo, the magical girl anime series ran in 1982 and 1991 including the Harmony Gold dub of the OAV Minky Momo/Gigi and the Fountain of Youth was released by what is now a defunct company under the label "Just For Kids" that is known for other anime dub titles one of Saban dub that aired on Nick called Noozles, the awful dub called Wee Wendy (JP "Memoru" OAV), and the Time Bokan.OAV dub (US/UK Time Fighters). the Italian dubs of Minky Momo in 1982 called Benvenuta Gigi, Magico Mondo Gigi, and Tanto Tempo fa Gigi (1992).

Sailor Moon is finished. The creator of the series has a family to take care of. She is probably going to respond to Toei with a "no"

When you're a creator and have a wife and children, you have to think about them other than your own things.

So Sailor Moon fans, I hate to break it to you but it isn't going to happen. And even if it happens, it would be a DBZ Kai-Style Sailor Moon (Digitally remastered). And it's not going to stream on Crunchyroll. And Toei will not let Netflix get rights to the Cookie Jar./Saban/CWi dubs SM, SM:R, SM:S, and SM:Super S. Saban Brands? Possibly no dice. But if Saban Brands can get Digimon Fusion, they could for Sailor Moon, but probably not . FUNimation? maybe. They did successfully got the rights to One Piece, probably not for SM.

So remember, family first.

HBO: VLC Media Player institutes as an illegal downloader

The Entertainment industry is now going after open-source software (P2P software is still illegal) including GPL licensed media players that constitutes as illegal downloaders.

If you remember Aereo case the New York District Federal Appeals had turned down the lawsuits from FOX, ABC, NBC, CBS, and Univision, claiming that Aereo's website doesn't constitute as copyright infringement, including the mini-antennas.

How can receiving receiving over-the-air be copyright infringement?

Cable channels on Mobile DTV stations are encrypted.

Channel 55 licensed by MediaFLO (now part of AT&T) which is now used for wireless internet and phone and Channel 56 is licensed to Echostar which is uplinked from one of its satellites through the wireless antennas.

Receiving Encrypted Mobile DTV signals without paying is theft, like cable piracy.

Time Warner channel and content original owner HBO has filed DMCA against Google to take down the list of torrent sites (I cannot list the addresses due to copyright policy) and VideoLAN maybe on the list.

It's not an error. Big IP holders are going after open-source things as the TPP agreement is coming close to a final deal in October while many of the members say it would take longer.

Furthermore, after August recess, Congress will be voting to renew the Fast Track Trade Authority, which would lead to the approval of not only TPP and TAFTA/TTIP but ACTA as well by a up-down vote with no amendment and debate is limited to 20 hours. Japan was the first to ratify ACTA, and it will come to Congress to approve ACTA once fast track is renewed.

Majority of House Democrats have pledged to vote against the renewal

Congress will probably block Japan's entry into TPP because of it's currency manipulation, and the Abe-controlled government is being a total jerk of going back to its Meiji-era fascist state. Osaka Mayor Hashimoto would not shut up about the "comfort women" and offends the US suggesting that our military should have brothels.

But back to this issue: The worst part is that Silverlight has been discontinued and Flash is near its end, while Google and Microsoft is ready to integrate DRM into HTML5 called Encrypted Media Extensions (EME) that will be used not only for movies and music, but also for web sites and digital images.  Netflix is the first company to begin this process, and social media site like Facebook could use this to charge users a fee to access content and share. Game developers will also use this feature to encrypt online games for a premium free.

Apparently those who post rumors about Facebook charging users for a fee (including price charts for Gold Membership) is actually coming true. Facebook could and soon likely implement EME to its site and start charging new users to open an account and current users to keep their accounts open.  And sharing someone's post to keep their account free is not going to happen.

HTML5 with DRM/EME is the End of the net as we know it. While XP support ends in the next several months, Vista ends in 2017 and Win7 ending in 2020. It's back to the old Pony Express

Congress to legalize malware and ransomware

Better go back to the old paper and pen and the old postal service because big media wants ransomware (just like the FBI ransomware) and other malware to be used to combat piracy. This is not just limited to P2P, but also expands to those who use a web browser (primarily open-source), those who use copy/paste, or a paint program like MS paint, Photoshop, etc.

The IP Commission 84-page report again suggest using ransomware and other malware just like it's being done in the Dutch government. Again this is NOT limited to P2P.

Congress has will likely do this in the coming months, but as of now.

As for CISPA, The Senate would not be taking the bill up for vote.

But the worst thing is that in Page 83 of Chapter 13:

Organizations need to have systems - software, hardware, and staff to take real-time action to shut down free movement, lock inside doors, and immobilize attackers.

In other words, the big media would put you under house arrest. But this type of hardware to stop free-time movement would have to be a brain implant to force you against your will to obey the media, be uncreative, unproductive, and buy their products. Turning you into their mind-controlled robot.

The Paragraph suggests that companies should watermark, meta-tagging. Another paragraph suggests ransomware with instructions that people should call the police and confess their crime for a password. But you wont get the password to unlock your computer, except you will get arrested.

WIPO altered Blind treaty could make the blind suffer severely

Corporates are killing the blind. Knowledge Ecology International (KEI) reports that the MPAA and publishers want to make the blind suffer severely by removing fair use and fair dealing from the WIPO Blind treaty.

Please stand up for the blind and stop corporations from weakening this treaty. Write to your Senator and tell him/her to vote No if they succeed.

The blind will no longer be able to use braille to read books.

I care about the blind

We must care for the blind. This important Blind Treaty should not be altered.

This treaty is to protect the Blind from being discriminated and prohibited from using braille, not giving corporates more power to discriminate the blind and/or forbid them from using braille.

The Cleveland Show is ending in May due to poor ratings

The Cleveland Show is ending by May, which is two weeks, because of poor ratings and the Aereo case. It is unknown whether Cleveland and Junior will return to Quahog or we'll probably assume they both continue moving on to California where he would tie the knot with his ex-wife Loretta, just as Cleveland said in the pilot episode.

If they did move back to Quahog, it's unknown whether his wife Donna and stepchildren would be included. I don't know how Family Guy would go with Stewie and Rollo, and with Meg and Roberta.

Whatever you do, please set your DVR to record the final episode and let me know. This show had good ratings for years, but now that everyone watch shows on the internet, it's not because they're racist.

The Show will continue on Adult Swim, and it will be in syndication this fall on local stations.

MacFarlene may go to Mike Lazzo or Time Warner to strike a deal to get more episodes on AS or TBS.

We'll folks, I'm afraid that's the end for editthis.info as Rob Kohr cannot afford the money to keep the servers running and for domain.

Facebook Credits drop for real currencies gives game developers

As of 2012, Facebook had announced to drop its credits system for purchasing virtual items and now allowing your country's currency (US$, UK pound, Japanese Yen, etc.) to be used to buy in game virtual items and virtual currencies.

What does this mean for Game developers?

Game developers are free to bring back their old virtual currencies.

What happens to Facebook gift cards?

Register of Copyrights suggestions will put educational use in Jeopardy

Copyright maximalists will be in a hearing by the House Judiciary Committee tomorrow to update the US copyright law by making suggestion from the Register of Copyrights, Maria Pallante. Whether it's:

1. Abolishing Public Domain.and giving copyright holder an indefinite term even when the author is dead.

2. Reversing the principle of Fair use and First sale. As of today, The Supreme Court, today, has ruled in the Kirtsaeng vs. Wiley & Sons case by a vote 6-3, that first sale applies to works overseas.

3. Putting an end to educational use of copyrighted material by reversing the authorization of their works. The Obama Administration recently joined book publishers to sue a university in Georgia but they withdrawn.

This apparently will undermine the First Amendment of the Constitution:

1. Independent TV stations will shut down since they rely on public domain and some licensed shows.

2. Libraries will shut down because they rent books and photocopy school material.

3. It will give Patent trolls more power to harass consumers.

4. It will put consumers at risk of imprisonment for trying to sell their house not only its made in America but abroad as well.

5. Children who draw a cartoon characters that is owned by a media company such as Viacom or Disney, could put an entire family in prison.

6.  Karaoke bars would shut down because they play and sing copyrighted.  In fact, singing a copyrighted song in the shower can land you in prison

7. We also have DRM chips implanted in our brain and even surveillance cameras in our homes. They already have them set up in major cities.

Please urge your Representative to take a stand against such copyright maximalist proposals that puts our First Amendment in Jeopardy. Our rights to educational use in music, art, and literature will be gone.

House Representatives Coble and Chu forms a "Copyright Maximalist" caucus

Congress already has an "anti-piracy" caucus, but why another one? According to Techdirt, this one pull copyright maximalism out of the bag. It's called the "Creative Rights" caucus and this barely protects Creative Rights. Coble and Chu's Creative Rights view is to protect corporate intellectual property, and take away the rights of creativity.

A little innocent child drawing Sponge Bob would put an entire family in prison and how are they going to do that? While they take away the freedom of creativity on the internet, why stop there? They can write Copyright maximalist laws beyond the internet including putting wireless cameras in residential homes, use surveillance drones to monitor on people's activity to see if they are infringing copyright, such as singing a copyrighted song in public, or playing copyrighted music on the radio out loud. They could require everyone to have DRM chips in their brain, turning them into corporate mind slaves forcing them against their will to be uncreative, unproductive, and buy their products.

The Creative Rights caucus give the FBI the green light to shut down Deviantart.

We will be watching this throughout the days, weeks, and months

Canada prepares to ratify ACTA with bill C-56

Canada bill C-56 called the Combating Counterfeiting Products Act (CCPA) that complies with ACTA. Canada will be the second country to ratify treaty.

This bill stops counterfeit products from crossing the US/Canadian borders especially those poorly made products that are made from China, including toys with lead paint, counterfeit shoes and handbags.

The USTR may also urge TPP negotiating countries who signed onto ACTA, ratify it, including New Zealand and Singapore. Still no word if Australian Senate is going to ratify ACTA, although its committee rejected it. Japan had previously ratified the treaty. The Mexican Senate rejects ACTA, so it's unlikely they will ratify it.

This will leave up to our US Senate to amend a bill to ratify it.

So Canadians, urge your parliament to vote NO on C-56.

Google plans to cut off funding to DeviantArt, Fanfiction dot Net, MediaMiner, and even Anime News Network

Google is planning to cut off funding to websites that are deemed "illegal", this may include DeviantArt, Fanfiction dot Net, and MediaMiner because they are hosting derivative works of copyrighted material. Anime News Network may also be in danger of losing funding in advertisement because they are linking to copyrighted material from media news sources. Toonzone could also lose funding in advertisement which they post links to copyrighted material from other media sources, while the forum rules prohibit linking to pirated material such as torrents. This also goes with Neogaf, Anime Vice, and Gaijinside.

European Human Rights Court Ruling could mean a second attempt to ratify ACTA

A European Human Rights Court Ruling, according to Techdirt, says that copyright doesn't violate human rights. This ruling will allow the European Parliament to make another attempt to ratify ACTA regardless of the opposition. If copyright is compatible with the EU's human rights law, then so is ACTA. Seeing the Chris Dodd, MPAA chairman is very pleased on the ruling and even suggesting that the EU must again ratify ACTA.

With ACTA ratified and into full force after six ratifications, patent trolls will have the right to harass consumers, schools, universities, and businesses for money. Non commercial uses can be treated as commercial copyright infringement including parodies, mashups, etc. Even singing a copyrighted song in the shower or the song "Happy Birthday" which is owned by Time Warner is infringement

One patent troll coming by the name Project Paperless, sued several companies for using copiers they claim to patent, whether the patent is owned by companies such Microsoft, Xerox, Currently, US Congress are trying to pass legislation to combat Patent abuse. With ACTA ratified into full force, Project Paperless is free to continue on harassing and suing businesses until they go bankrupt and shut down.

The FCC is not proposing a Super Wifi plan to give everyone free wifi

There are false rumors that the FCC is proposing a Super Wifi plan to give everyone free wifi, free phone service and free internet.

What the FCC really proposed after the National Broadband Plan was enacted, is to auction UHF spectrum (channels 31-51) to big telcos, AT&T, Verizon, Sprint, and T-mobile. You may want to look at this on Snopes before you get excited.

1  Spectrum bandwidth is too expensive.

2. Nationwide wifi broadband will be too expensive as big telcos impose data caps, you may want to consider using cable/satellite broadband like Xfinity, Hughesnet, and Exede.

3. How are you going to handle all the copyright lawsuits if you had a white space device to give everyone free public wifi? In order for you to offer public wifi, you must adopt stricter rules to combat online piracy including the six strikes system.

The Internet is going to die sooner or later. So you better get the old rabbit ears, read a paperback book, and explore nature.

Youtube Charging Users in the Spring will praise Over The Air Broadcast Stations

Thinking about cord-cutting? Forget it. Because Youtube will start charging users for all online content going the way of Hulu. Hulu has already been charging for online content.

Watching Smosh will charge you $5. Watching online mini eps of the Annoying Orange would cost you $3.

So why do I think that this will praise over-the-air TV stations? because everyone watches content for free

So you may say that it's looks like the FCC will have to scrap the incentive auctions for wireless and I agree because everything on the internet will soon have paywalls, news websites already done that. Soon the internet will be officially dead and OTA broadcast television will soon getting more life. Independent book stores will soon be regaining and back in business.
